Broiler Pan Cleanup

Hi Betty, I love using my broiler, but the cleanup is impossible! How can I make cleaning up a messy broiler pan easier? --Andrea
Hi Andrea, Oh, I know what you're talking about! That broiler pan can be a greasy, yucky, stuck-on mess. But you can make cleanup a breeze by lining the broiler pan with foil before broiling, or spraying generously with nonstick cooking spray. If you forgot that step, though, and you’re facing a burnt-on mess, here's what you should do: Allow the pan to come to room temperature, then pour or scrape any accumulated grease into a disposable container, seal it and throw it away. Sprinkle the pan liberally with baking soda and top it with a wet paper towel. Let soak for half an hour, then clean as usual; the burnt-on stuff will come off easily. This works great with BBQ grills, too!

What Others Have To Say

Loretta, for a traditional Key lime pie, you need a lot of Key limes—which are sometimes hard to find and pricey. But check out my Cool Key Lime Pie; it gets around this by using frozen limeade concentrate. It’s a great recipe!

Interested in making key-lime pie, what ingredients do I need. Thank you

Jane, that sounds like a good tip — I’ll try it!

Mollie, I’ve answered your question about a salmon recipe in a separate "Ask Grandma Betty." You can view it here: Salmon Recipe with Orange Marmalade

also, while the pan is hot, put some water into it and boil. then shut off heat and with a wad of paper towels let the dirty water aborb. the pan comes clean everytime!

Hi Granny;
I am looking for a seafood recipe I thought I saw in your recipes. It was a salmon with orange marmalade dish.
Did I see it on your wonderful recipes or somewhere else?
Keep up the good work! Your recipes are sooooo yummy.
Many thanks,
Mollie "K"
