Ham Hock Recipes

I love ham hocks. Cook them with beans usually once a month. Are there any recipes for ham hock besides with beans? Would appreciate any advice. --Nancy
Hi Nancy! What a coincidence--Anishka asked a similar question a few months ago! You can see my answer, including links to some soup recipes that you can add a ham hock to, here:  Ham Hocks.

When I make blueberry pie the bottom crust never gets cooked and always comes out gooey. I dredge my berries with flour and I’ve even tried corn starch. How can I get my bottom crust to cook thru’? --Anna Marie

    Hi Denise,

My goodness, I didn’t realize there are so many people allergic to cinnamon!  I had this very question a couple of weeks ago, but about Cinnamon-less Apple Pie.  The advice there holds true for pumpkin pie as well: You can substitute another spice (like nutmeg or allspice), or simply omit the cinnamon.

  • Question
I was wondering if you could add the thumbprint cookies recipe to the site. I had it in my recipe box but it seems to have gone missing, the good recipes always do. I made them 2 years ago as Christmas presents for the homeless and would really like to make them for my kids this year. I remember the filling being preserves and they were so good. Thanks so much! --Jamie Hi Betty. I had a box of your recipes that my mother gave me when I married. Unfortunately, I lost one of my favorites: the thumbprint cookies. It was a sugar cookie with preserves in center. Can you please post that one or send it? Thank you. --Kristina

  • Question

Hi! Do you have any tips on how to properly bake pies? The problem I’m having is that though the top crust is nice and golden, the bottom crust stays soft. How can I make both the top and bottom pie crust perfect?

  • Question
I used to get the cards in the mail but one recipe has gone missing from my collection and no one will fess up. It was one of the 'keepsake cookies' and I think it was called Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. What I remember about them were that they were chocolate cookies with chocolate chips in them and that you had to refrigerate the dough overnight. It was a HUGE family favorite. Can you help me? --Anne
