No Sifter for Cinnamon Biscuits

Question: For the Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits, I don't have a sifter. Will they still turn out okay? --Miranda
Hi Miranda, Hmmmm, I’m not quite sure, but I’ll say my Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits will probably come out okay if you don’t sift the flour. Just use a little bit less flour than 2 cups called for (maybe 2 cups less 2 tablespoons). This is because sifted flour has more air in it, so 2 cups sifted flour is actually less flour than denser unsifted flour. Once the dough comes together, if it seems too wet, add a little more flour. But did you know that if you have a fine-mesh strainer, you can improvise a sifter? Simply place the strainer over a large bowl, scoop in some flour and shake the strainer back and forth to sift the flour into the bowl. Be sure to do this before measuring out the 2 cups. Good luck with the recipe!

I have the Grandma’s Kitchen recipe cards. I’ve lost a card that had a sauce recipe on it. It might be Beefy Tomato Pasta Sauce; I think the recipe had tomato soup and tomato juice in it. If you could look into this?

  • Question
Hey Betty, I once had your recipe for cinnamon buns but I misplaced it. If possible I would like to have it, through any method. I am serving breakfast this coming Saturday, so I will need it quickly. Also I had tried the recipe on a few occasions but the buns didn't seem to cook all the way through (they were so good they were eaten anyway though). Could you tell me how to correct this? Thanks. --Alexis

    Hi Denise,

My goodness, I didn’t realize there are so many people allergic to cinnamon!  I had this very question a couple of weeks ago, but about Cinnamon-less Apple Pie.  The advice there holds true for pumpkin pie as well: You can substitute another spice (like nutmeg or allspice), or simply omit the cinnamon.

And if you haven't finalized your menu yet, you might want to browse all my Thanksgiving Recipes! My boyfriend is allergic to cinnamon and he wants pumpkin pie. What can I use instead of cinnamon?
