Old-Fashioned Frozen Fruit Salad

Do you have a recipe that was popular in the 60's, it was a frozen fruit salad, using fruit cocktail & I think maybe cream cheese. It was something white & creamy, but not sweet. Mom would freeze it in the ice cubes tray. The kind with the removable lever cube divider. I believe she would serve on a lettuce leaf, maybe with a dab of mayo and a cherry. Thanks.
-Mary

Hello Mary,
Can you believe I still have one of those ice cube trays?  What a great idea your mother had to make a frozen fruit salad in one of those!   I'll have to try it!
I think you're in luck.  I may have just the recipe you're looking for!  My Frozen Fruit & Nut Salad is creamy and not too sweet, and if your mom didn't use nuts in hers you can feel free to leave them out with good results.  You can also change the fruit to suit your taste.  I hope this recipe brings back wonderful memories for you.  It certainly does for me!

  • Question
I have several cookie recipes I would like to try but they all call for shortening (which I have never used in anything, and can't imagine ever using!). Can I use butter instead and get the same results? What about in pie crust? Thanks for all your help in the past - you are the greatest! --Nana Ruth

  • Question
I have a problem and am hoping you can help me. I love recipes that have you put biscuits on top, like creamed chicken and biscuits. However the problem I have is that when you put them on top to bake, the underside of the biscuit never gets cooked. It's always still doughy and runny at times. How do I correct this to be able to bake them on top? Thank you for any help you can give :-) --Laura

I'm looking for a green tomato pasta sauce for canning. I'm having trouble finding a good one. I don't want the meat in it or the cheese that goes on top. I just want the sauce to can in a jar. Thank you. --Judy

Do you have any problems with the vegetarian, vegan ways of eating? I don’t see any meatless, dairyless, etc. recipes being your mainstay.

Hello Betty, You have a great site. I am living in Kansas and originally from Boston, MA, and was wondering if you could maybe list a recipe on how to make New England Clam Chowder. (Although I’m not sure where I am going to get clams for the chowder.) Again, I want to thank you for this wonderful site. --Archie

I'm just starting out my cooking for the first time and would like to know how different or easy it is to use garlic paste in place of a clove of garlic? And if the clove is better how to use it? Thanks Betty!
