Pasta Salad
Do you have a cold pasta salad recipe for a picnic?
—Barb
Hi Barb,
I have a few terrific pasta salads, perfect for packing up to take to the park for a picnic: Pasta & Tomato Toss is a light summery salad of pasta, tomatoes and fresh basil. Chilled Rotini Toss is colorful pasta tossed with Italian dressing—a great side dish for sandwiches. Vermicelli Walnut Salad tosses fresh veggies and walnuts with thin spaghetti. And there are a lot of other picnic-friendly salads on my Salad page. And don't miss all my Al Fresco Summer Recipes, including lots of picnic picks. So take a look and be inspired!

QuestionWe are having an “Alice in Wonderland” tea party this weekend for my daughter’s 17th birthday and would really like to make some petit fours that say “eat me.” But… I don’t know how. Any suggestions? I'm okay with using fondant to cover them, but apart from that, I just need the simplest and least expensive way to pull off this tea party. Also, any other “tea” food ideas would be great. Thanx!March 2012

What Others Have To Say
Hi there, Grandma Jo!
Unfortunately, I don’t happen to have a recipe on the site that fits the bill, and I’ve also scoured my entire collection and have come up short.
But you might be able to adapt my recipe for Tomorrow’s Layered Salad. It doesn’t have pasta, but it does have bacon, peas, green onions, and a sour cream/mayo dressing. You could certainly add some cooked macaroni or penne pasta (tossed in a bit of the dressing). And add anything else that you like, for that matter. That’s what I love about salads: you can include anything you want!
Please let me know how it turns out if you try it!
Grandma Betty
I am looking for a cold salad recipe that has peas, bacon, onion sometimes shredded carrots tossed with some kind of slightly sweet mayo or white yogurt sauce. Whenever I have had it at a pot-luck no one seemed to know who brought it to share.
Thanks for your help.
