Pumpkin Pie without Cinnamon
Hi Denise,
My goodness, I didn’t realize there are so many people allergic to cinnamon! I had this very question a couple of weeks ago, but about Cinnamon-less Apple Pie. The advice there holds true for pumpkin pie as well: You can substitute another spice (like nutmeg or allspice), or simply omit the cinnamon.
And if you haven't finalized your menu yet, you might want to browse all my Thanksgiving Recipes! My boyfriend is allergic to cinnamon and he wants pumpkin pie. What can I use instead of cinnamon?

Question
I have the Grandma’s Kitchen recipe cards. I’ve lost a card that had a sauce recipe on it. It might be Beefy Tomato Pasta Sauce; I think the recipe had tomato soup and tomato juice in it. If you could look into this?

What Others Have To Say
Hi Elly, You could try cardamom or ground cloves, although those will provide a flavor that is further away from cinnamon than nutmeg. Or simply omit all the spices -- pumpkin pie will still be delicious. But if you do substitute, keep in mind that no matter what you use to substitute cinnamon, start with about half the amount of the substitute, then add more to taste. This is because cinnamon has a more mellow flavor than most other spices. You don’t want to overwhelm the pie with the spice.
What if you can't have ginger or nutmeg also? Any other substitutions?
thanks.
