Sending Cookies Overseas

What is a good cookie to send to our boys in Afghanistan? Is there anything that will not spoil? --Kathleen
Hi Kathleen, How nice to hear you want to send a little love to our soldiers overseas! The best cookies for shipping are sturdy cookies, like brownies and other bar cookies, shortbread, and gingersnaps. If you think that the cookies will take more than a couple of weeks to get to their destination, stay away from buttery cookies (shortening is OK though) or cookies that have honey, brown sugar or molasses. And anything with chocolate chips or chunks probably isn’t a good idea in the summer months. Here are some cookies that are good candidates for sending to our troops overseas: Oatmeal Raisin Cookies Golden Coconut Bars Fruity Oat Squares Gingerbread Shapes

  • Question
I’ve been canning Dilly Beans and I have some dill leftover. What should I do with it and is it OK to use dried dill in making dilly beans for next year if I can preserve it some way? I just cut the heads off the stems and put the whole thing in a paper bag, is that a good way to preserve it? --Brenda
