Soup for Thirty
Not really a cooking question, but a serving one. We are having 30 people for Thanksgiving dinner. My son wants me to serve our yummy squash soup. I don't have 30 soup bowls and am trying to figure out how to serve soup to that many people. Any suggestions? Thanks.
--Cathy
Hi Cathy,
Well, my first thought when reading your question was bread bowls! But hollowing out small breads and ladling soup into them is not very practical when you’re talking about 30 people!
Have you considered renting some tableware for the dinner? Most party rental stores have plates, bowls, wineglasses, etc. for rent. Or you could scout around the warehouse stores (like Costco and Sam’s Club) or IKEA for inexpensive (but good-looking!) soup or cereal bowls. You might be able to find some for one to two dollars each.
You might also look into disposable dinnerware. Available in some of the big-box stores, these are more than paper plates, but less than fancy china. They are good looking (and sturdy) pieces that are much nicer than the paper and plastic plates familiar from many a picnic.

QuestionI was wondering if you could add the thumbprint cookies recipe to the site. I had it in my recipe box but it seems to have gone missing, the good recipes always do. I made them 2 years ago as Christmas presents for the homeless and would really like to make them for my kids this year. I remember the filling being preserves and they were so good. Thanks so much! --Jamie Hi Betty. I had a box of your recipes that my mother gave me when I married. Unfortunately, I lost one of my favorites: the thumbprint cookies. It was a sugar cookie with preserves in center. Can you please post that one or send it? Thank you. --KristinaMarch 2012

QuestionSome of my canning jars look milky, most likely from years of use in our hard water. Is there any way to get rid of that? I suppose they are still safe to use, but, they don’t look nice. Name: BrendaMarch 2012

What Others Have To Say
Hi Betty, Thanks for your response. I went to IKEA yesterday with no luck. Today I went to a restaurant supply Co. and found bowls that will work for less than $1.00 per bowl. They came 36 to a box. They are not "perfect" for my dinner, so I will keep looking. Can always go back if I don't find anything else.---Cathy
