Hello! I LOVE cooking and food. I would like to know what is your favorite recipe for sponge cake and if I should use real sponges.
A sponge cake is a light and airy cake that gets its leavening from beaten egg whites, rather than baking powder or baking soda as most cakes. Sponge cake gets its name from its spongy texture, NOT from a breadmaker’s “sponge” – the mix of flour, yeast and water that is sometimes used as a starter for homemade bread.
Unfortunately, I don’t happen to have a sponge cake on the site at this time. But I do have a Chocolate Chiffon Cake, which is similar to sponge cake in that it uses egg whites as the leavener. You might want to try it — it’s light, chocolatey and delicious!
Why isn’t my homemade cake as light and fluffy as a cake from a box?
