Christmas Recipes
So what are your plans for Christmas dinner this year? What, you haven’t come up with a menu yet? Well, if you’re looking for inspiration and great recipes for your holiday table, you’ve come to the right place! Grandma's here and she's got lots of suggestions for a stellar Christmas dinner!.
(And if you're still undecided about Christmas dinner, check out Grandma's Favorite Christmas Menus, featuring three different stellar holiday dinners.)
Wonderful Roasts and More
A roast is a traditional entree at Christmas, because really, what could be easier--and tastier? If you’re expecting a lot of company, you can’t go wrong with any of these beauties, which serve 10 and more: Roast Leg of Lamb and Ham with Raisin Sauce are traditional choices, but Apricot Glazed Pork Loin could become a new holiday family favorite.
If you’re serving 6 to 8 guests, I have a lot of beef roasts to choose from! Take your pick from Marinated Rib Roast, Holiday Beef Roast, Peppered Beef Rib Roast, and Standing Rib Roast. If you want to go a bit “fancy,” class things up with Burgundy Lamb Shanks, Beef Rouladen or Veal Roast & Onions.
You say your family won’t accept anything but turkey for Christmas dinner? Not a problem! Try New England Turkey, Turkey & Stuffing or Holiday Stuffed Turkey.
And finally, if you’re hankering for ethnic fare, Italian cooks adore Grandma’s Lasagna on Christmas Eve, and Germans won’t live without Sauerbraten & Vegetables during the Yuletide.
Sensational Side Dishes
I’ve always believed that the vegetable side dishes at Christmas should be a little bit special – none of this just steaming some green beans or broccoli. So go all out with Green Bean Bundles, Baked Carrot Pudding, Winter Vegetable Layers, or Ratatouille. And don't forget everybody's holiday staple, Favorite Green Bean Casserole!
Or make something a little simpler, but still oh-so-special, like Mellow Turnip Bake, Quick Corn Pudding, Mustard Brussels Sprouts, Creamed Pearl Onions or German Red Cabbage.
The potatoes should be special as well! My favorite holiday potato dish is Flaky Potato Pie, but I’m also partial to Crunchy Potato Casserole, Potatoes Florentine, Potato Scallop Surprise and Roasted Potatoes & Pearls.
Amazing Apps
Wait! I almost forgot about the appetizers! You absolutely cannot have a holiday dinner without first teasing the palate! My favorites recipes for nibbles before dinner are the festive Holiday Cheese Ball, the elegant Puff Pastry Wreath and the indulgent Smoked Salmon Ball. Your guests might also enjoy Mushroom Croustades, Chutney Cheese Spread, Blue Cheese Grapes, and Pastry Olive Bundles.
And to wash it all down? Why, Pink Champagne Punch, of course!
Delightful Desserts
Now for the desserts. Oh my. All the wonderful holiday treats I have could fill up a page all by themselves! But let’s see if I can fit most of them here: You know it’s just not Christmas without cookies. Start with Santa Star Cookies, then move on to Gift Tag Cookies, Christmas Light Cookies, and my favorite, Stained Glass Star Cookies. And if you’re looking for a spectacular cookie centerpiece, look no further than my Christmas Cookie Wreath. I also have the handy Holiday Shortbread, the special Spiced Holiday Wafers and the cool Chocolate Peppermint Bars.
Have a hankering for gingerbread? Have fun with Jolly Gingerbread Pals, Gingerbread Cake Squares or Gingerbread Shapes.
What about cake, you ask! Well, what about the colorful Stained Glass Christmas Cake, the oh-so-elegant Christmas Tree Cakes, the super-fun Christmas Tree Cake and the rich Eggnog Cheesecake.
And let's no forget tradition. What would Christmas be without Buche de Noel, Traditional Fruitcake and Red Velvet Cake?
