These toffee bars were my little brother's favorite sweet. Grandma often surprised him with them.
Grandma called this 'bridge mix in a brownie' and often served it to her bridge group.
These no-bake bars were a regular summer treat at Grandma's house.
I make these cookies for my daughter's 'tea' parties just like Grandma made them for mine.
Served with hot chocolate in the winter and cold milk in the summer, these were a year-round treat.
Grandma had a wonderful set of cookie cutters. She liked to experiment with the different shapes.
The great thing about this recipe is that it makes a big batch, so there is plenty for everyone to have all they want!
I loved making these bars as a child, because I could help spread the jam and sprinkle on the topping.
There always seemed to be a plate of these squares in Grandma's kitchen for the children.
Chewy bar cookies like these were Grandma's specialty and our favorite treat.
It's not necessary to buy bread just for this recipe. Grandma would always freeze stale bread slices until she had enough to make a batch.
Save yourself the expense of the half-and-half by substituting 1/4 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup milk instead. Reduce the lemon juice to 1 tablespoon since the sour cream provides sufficient tang.
