Kentucky Braised Sirloin and Onions

50 minutes“If bourbon is not a staple in your house, try using dry sherry, white wine or beef broth instead. If you choose to use broth, add a tablespoon lemon juice to help tenderize the steak.”
Ingredients
Serves 4
- 2 pounds sirloin steak
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed peppercorns
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large onions, cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Rub steak with salt, pepper and garlic.

Place steak in a large baking dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange onions over steak.

Pour bourbon and water around meat. Bake, covered, until steak is tender, about 50 minutes.

Arrange steak and onions on a serving platter. Pour pan juices into a saucepan. Stir in cornstarch. Place over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until thickened. Serve over steak and onions.
