Mock Broiled Filets

Making your own ground meat is economical and can create a finer, more appealing texture. Simply purchase the least expensive chuck roast and chop it to the desired consistency in a food processor.

Making your own ground meat is economical and can create a finer, more appealing texture. Simply purchase the least expensive chuck roast and chop it to the desired consistency in a food processor.

Ingredients

Serves 8 

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 2 tablespoons melted margarine
Directions
  1. 1

    Preheat broiler. Combine beef, Worcestershire sauce, bread crumbs, tomato sauce, salt and egg in a large bowl; mix well.

    Form beef mixture into 8 thick patties, flattening outer edges.

    Wrap a bacon slice around outer edge of each pattie. Secure with a toothpick.

    Broil patties, turning once and brushing with margarine, until bacon is cooked through, about 15 minutes for medium-well.
