Russian Beef Kebabs

Ingredients

Serves 4 

  • 2 pounds beef sirloin
  • 1 large onion, grated
  • 6 cloves garlic, grated or minced
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup red-wine vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 large onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
Directions

    Trim fat from beef. Cut beef into 11/2-inch pieces.

    Combine beef, grated onion, garlic, wine, vinegar, olive oil, bay leaves, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Stir to mix well. Refrigerate until ready to cook, at least 30 minutes.

    Preheat grill. Remove beef from marinade. Thread beef, onion pieces and bell pepper pieces alternately onto 4 long metal skewers.

    Grill beef, turning and basting with marinade, until meat is cooked to taste, about 8 minutes for medium-rare.
