This frosty, creamy shake looks lovely, tastes refreshing and has lots of citrus flavor—the perfect creamsicle in a glass!

This frosty, creamy shake looks lovely, tastes refreshing and has lots of citrus flavor—the perfect creamsicle in a glass!

Ingredients

 

  • 1 orange
  • 1 cup light (11/2% milkfat) buttermilk, chilled
  • 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup orange juice, chilled
  • 2 tbsp. firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup whipped cream
Directions

    Grate 1 tsp. zest from the orange. Reserve the orange for a later use.

    Combine the buttermilk, ice cream, orange juice, brown sugar and 1/2 tsp. orange zest in a 5-cup blender container.

    Cover and blend on high speed until smooth, about 30 seconds. Pour into2 chilled glasses. Top with the whipped cream, dividing evenly among the shakes. Garnish with the remaining zest. Serve immediately.

• As long as you’re zesting an orange,zest the rest of it! There’s lots of waysto use up orange zest. Stir some intopurchased orange marmalade to give it a boost. Refrigerate some and use it as a garnish over the next few days, perfect for salads, entrées or desserts. Freeze the rest, 1 tbsp. at a time, in plastic resealable bags. You can keep the zest frozen up to a year and stir it into batters for baked goods as needed.
