Nutty Herbed Dressing

This recipe is a perfect way to use bread heels and crusts. Place them in a food processor or blender container and process until crumbs form. Freeze any leftover crumbs for later use.

Ingredients

Serves 6 

  • 5 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped mixed nuts
  • 1 stick butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 4 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
Directions

    Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a medium baking dish. Combine bread crumbs, sage, salt and pepper in a large bowl.

    Add nuts, butter, egg and milk to bowl; mix well. Stir celery and onion.

    Spread dressing mixture evenly over bottom of prepared baking dish.

    Bake until dressing is set and fairly dry in the center, about 1 hour.
