I could easily eat three helpings of Beef & Macaroni Bake when I was growing up.
Grandma's Secret Trick
If she didn't have tomato paste on hand, Grandma had a useful substitution. She used 1 cup of canned chopped tomatoes instead, and omitted the water. She usually added 1/4 teaspoon of sugar, as tomato paste is slightly sweeter than canned tomatoes.
When Grandpa smelled this cooking, he would sing: ‘Hey good lookin’, What ya got cookin’?’
My mother said that when she was a child, Tuesday was ‘stuffed pepper day’ at her house.
While the children played hide-and-seek in the yard, Grandma grilled this pork.
We asked Grandma if she had to cook all day to make her beef-and-vegetable pie. She just smiled.
