Beef Vegetable Burgers

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 1 medium onion, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices bacon

Directions

    Preheat the grill to medium.

    Combine ground beef, carrots, onion, Cheddar, bell pepper, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and black pepper in a large bowl and mix well.

    Shape the ground beef mixture into 8 patties.

    Wrap a slice of bacon around each pattie. Secure with a toothpick.

    Grill the burgers 6 inches from heat until cooked through, about 5 to 12 minutes per side.

For a charcoal-grilled taste even when she cooked these under the broiler, Grandma used a smoked mozzarella or other smoked cheese in place of the Cheddar, or she added a drop or two of liquid smoke to the ground beef mixture.
