Bratwurst & Peppers Skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bratwurst links, cut into 1/2-inch slices
  • 2 medium green bell peppers, cut into strips
  • 2 medium red bell peppers, cut into strips
  • 1 1/2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • Cherry tomato halves, optional for garnish
  • Fresh celery leaves, optional for garnish

Directions

  • 1
    Heat a large skillet over medium heat until hot. Add sliced bratwurst; cover and cook until browned and no longer pink in center, about 5 minutes. Transfer bratwurst to a plate. Cover bratwurst and keep warm.

    Drain all but 1 tablespoon of the drippings from skillet. Add bell pepper strips, onions, paprika and caraway seeds. Cook and stir vegetables just until tender, about 5 minutes.

    Combine bratwurst and vegetables and place on a serving platter. Garnish with cherry tomato halves and celery leaves, if desired.

Grandma's Secret Trick

This bratwurst dish was so easy to make that Grandma had the time to whip up a big bowl of her fluffy mashed potatoes to serve with it. We spooned the sausage mixture over the potatoes on our plate and the meal was complete-except for the sauerkraut that Grandpa liked on the side.
