Sloppy Joe Turnovers

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 (12-ounce) can refrigerated flaky biscuits
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted, optional

Directions

  • 1
Cook ground beef with onion in a large skillet, stirring continually, until the ground beef is browned and crumbly. Drain in a colander.
  • 2
Return the ground beef mixture to the skillet. Stir in ketchup, sour cream, salt and garlic powder.
  • 3
    Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • 4
Pat or roll each biscuit into a 4-inch square on a lightly floured surface. Arrange the biscuit squares on ungreased baking sheets.
  • 5
Spoon 1/4 cup of the ground beef mixture in the center of each biscuit square. Fold over the corner of each square to form a triangle. Seal edges with a fork. Cut three 1/2-inch slits in the top of each turnover.
  • 6
Bake until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes. Brush with melted butter, if desired.

Grandma's Secret Trick

Sometimes Grandma used canned refrigerated crescent rolls instead of biscuits for even flakier turnovers. She formed four big rectangles by unrolling the dough, separating the four rectangles and pinching the remaining perforations to seal. Next she spooned 1/2 cup of filling onto each rectangle, then folded each rectangle over to form a triangle. She sealed the edges and baked as the recipe directs.
