Stuffed Green Peppers

Ingredients
Serves 6
- 6 large green bell peppers
- 2 teaspoons salt, divided
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons chopped onion
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce, divided
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
Directions

Remove stems and seeds from bell peppers; rinse. Place enough water to cover the bell peppers in a large saucepan. Add 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cook for 5 minutes; drain well.

Cook ground beef and onion in a medium skillet over medium-high heat until ground beef is browned and crumbly; drain well.

Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

Stir 1 cup tomato sauce, rice, remaining salt and garlic salt into ground beef mixture. Cook until heated through. Lightly stuff each bell pepper with 1/2 cup of the ground beef mixture.

Place the bell peppers upright in an 8 × 8-inch baking dish. Pour remaining tomato sauce over the bell peppers. Bake, covered, for 15 minutes. Bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes longer.

Grandma's Secret Tip
If she didn't want to go to the trouble of stuffing the peppers, Grandma made unstuffed peppers. She chopped the bell peppers and cooked them with the ground beef, then added the remaining ingredients and cooked for 15 minutes.
