Ingredients

Serves 6

  • 1 box (12-ounce) tri-colored corkscrew pasta (about 33/4 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter or margarine, divided
  • 1 bag (12-ounce) shredded Swiss cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup cubed ham (about 8 ounces)
Directions
  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly spray a 2-quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. 2

Cook the pasta according to the package directions for the least amount of time. Drain. Return to the saucepan. Stir in 1 tbsp. butter. Set aside.

  3. 3

Meanwhile, microwave the remaining butter on HIGH in a small microwave-safe bowl until melted. Stir in 1/2 cup Swiss cheese and the bread crumbs. Mix until crumbly. Set aside.

  4. 4

Place the mustard, salt and nutmeg in a large bowl. Add 1 tablespoon very hot water and stir until the seasonings are dissolved and blended. Stir in the milk, ham, remaining cheese and the cooked pasta. Spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.

  5. 5

Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture evenly over the top. Bake until heated through and the topping is lightly browned, 35–40 minutes.

Tri-colored corkscrew pasta gives a colorful appearance, but other pasta could be substituted such as shells, penne, bow-tie pasta or wagon wheel pasta.
