Ingredients

Serves 24

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
Directions
  1. 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 13 × 9-inch baking pan.

  2. 2

Combine 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, granulated sugar, vegetable oil and butter in a large saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring continually, until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in egg whites. Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix well.

  3. 3

Stir in the vanilla extract and the remaining semisweet chocolate chips. Spread in prepared baking pan.

  4. 4

Bake brownies until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out almost clean, about 16 to 20 minutes. Let stand until cool. Cut into 2-inch diamonds.

  5. 5

Place the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on MEDIUM (70% power) until melted. Drizzle over the brownies.

Grandma's Secret Tip

Grandma's Secret Tip

Because Grandma preferred chewy brownies, she used a minimal amount of baking soda in her batter. Adding more leavening, such as baking soda or baking powder, tends to make brownies more cake-like.
