Hidden Treasure Cookie Pops

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 10 wooden craft sticks
  • 10 fun-size chocolate-coated, caramel-and-nougat candy bars

Directions

    Preheat the oven to 375ºF.

    Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, butter, peanut butter, egg and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer set at medium speed until creamy.

    Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt to creamed mixture and mix well.

    Insert a wooden stick into each candy bar to form a lollipop. Shape about 1/4 cup cookie dough evenly around each candy bar, covering completely.

    Arrange cookie pops 4 inches apart on baking sheets.

    Bake until golden, about 14 minutes. Cool on the baking sheets for 10 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Grandma's Secret Trick

To avoid having to use, and then wash, the sifter when she was using clumpy baking soda or baking powder, Grandma picked up a good tip from a friend. She measured the baking powder or baking soda, then put it into the palm of her hand. She held her hands over the mixing bowl and rubbed them together. The rubbing broke up the lumps, and the baking powder and baking soda went right into the bowl.
