Ingredients

Serves 24

  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped salted mixed nuts
Directions
  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 13 × 9-inch baking pan.

  2. 2

Beat butter and peanut butter in a large bowl until well blended; stir in brown sugar and granulated sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well blended. Add vanilla; mix until well blended.

  3. 3

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Stir into butter mixture until well blended.

  4. 4

Spread half the batter evenly in prepared pan. Spread syrup over top. Spoon remaining batter over syrup. Swirl with knife or spatula to create a marbled effect.

  5. 5

Sprinkle batter with chopped nuts. Bake until lightly browned, about 35 to 40 minutes. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Cut into 2-inch squares.

Grandma's Secret Trick

Grandma's Secret Trick

Since the mixed nuts in these brownies had less kid appeal, Grandma would alter the recipe when she made a batch for the grandkids. She used chocolate-covered peanuts in place of the mixed nuts and stirred 1 cup of chocolate chips into the batter to make the brownies extra chocolaty.
