Marbled Nut Brownies

Ingredients
Serves 24
- 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1/4 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter
- 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate syrup
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped salted mixed nuts

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 13 × 9-inch baking pan.

Beat butter and peanut butter in a large bowl until well blended; stir in brown sugar and granulated sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well blended. Add vanilla; mix until well blended.

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Stir into butter mixture until well blended.

Spread half the batter evenly in prepared pan. Spread syrup over top. Spoon remaining batter over syrup. Swirl with knife or spatula to create a marbled effect.

Sprinkle batter with chopped nuts. Bake until lightly browned, about 35 to 40 minutes. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Cut into 2-inch squares.

Grandma's Secret Trick
Since the mixed nuts in these brownies had less kid appeal, Grandma would alter the recipe when she made a batch for the grandkids. She used chocolate-covered peanuts in place of the mixed nuts and stirred 1 cup of chocolate chips into the batter to make the brownies extra chocolaty.
