Pepperoni & Cheese Bread

Old-Fashioned Breads
Prep time:
12 minutes
baking time:
30 minutes

Ingredients

Serves 6

  • 5 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 (1-pound) loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1 cup thinly sliced pepperoni (about 5 1/4 ounces)
  • 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
Directions
  1. 1

    Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

  2. 2

Combine the butter, parsley, oregano and seasoned salt in a small bowl and mix well. Roll the bread dough into a 15 x 10-inch rectangle on a floured surface.

  3. 3

Spread 3 tablespoons of butter mixture over rolled dough. Arrange pepperoni evenly over butter mixture. Sprinkle with provolone.

  4. 4

Roll up rectangle, jelly roll fashion, starting at one long side. Pinch seam and ends to seal. Place roll, seam side down, on a baking sheet.

  5. 5

Brush dough with one-half of the remaining butter mixture. Bake until browned, about 30 minutes. Brush with remaining butter mixture. Let stand to cool for 5 minutes before slicing.

Sometimes Grandma made pizza pinwheels with this combination of ingredients. She spread a little pizza sauce over the butter mixture, then continued as the recipe directed. She cut the loaf into slices to make pizza pinwheels, which made an ideal snack or party food.
