Perk up pan-fried pork chops by smothering them in a delicious sauce made with apple cider, fresh sage and onions.

Ingredients

Serves 4 

  • 1/4 tsp. salt, divided
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper, divided
  • 4 pork chops (about5 oz. each)
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp. choppedfresh sage or1 tsp. dried sage
Directions

    Season the pork chops with 1/8 tsp. salt and 1/8 tsp. pepper. Heat the butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the pork chops. Cook until the juices run clear when pierced with a knife, 6–7 minutes on each side. Remove chops from skillet. Keep warm.

    Add the onion to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the flour. Gradually add the ciderand broth.

    Stir in the sage. Bring toa boil, stirring. Simmeruntil the sauce thickens,2–3 minutes. Add the remaining salt and pepper.

    Place the pork chops on warmed serving plates and spoon the sauce over the top.

Serve with sautéed potatoes and steamed cabbage wedges. Finish the meal with slices of warm Dutch apple pie.
