Pizza Parlor Stromboli
Prep time:
20 minutesCooking time:
25 minutes“Be thrifty and make your own bread dough. Mix 1 package fast-rising yeast, 11/2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 2/3 cup hot water and 1 tablespoon oil in a bowl. Knead for 5 minutes, then let stand for 10 minutes.”
Ingredients
Serves 6
- 1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
- 1 pound bulk pork sausage
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 teaspoons fennel seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup grated Romano cheese
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
Directions
1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet. Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a 6 x 14-inch rectangle on an oiled cutting board. Spread meat mixture evenly over rectangles; roll.
2

Place dough in a baking dish; cover with a towel. Let rise at room temperature until doubled in size.
3

Meanwhile, combine sausage, beef, fennel seeds, salt and pepper in a large skillet. Cook, stirring, until meat is browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes. Drain well.
4

Brush loaves with olive oil. Sprinkle cheese and oregano over top of loaves. Bake until bread is golden brown, about 25 minutes. Cut loaves into 2-inch slices.
