Meaty and delicious, this deep-dish pizza is piled with several different toppings to satisfy everyone at your table.

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • FOR THE PIZZA
  • 1 pound frozen pizza dough, thawed
  • 4 ounces ground beef
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 ounces sliced pepperoni
  • 1 medium tomato, diced (about 1 cup)
  • 3 sticks of string cheese, sliced into disks
  • 1 large green bell pepper, diced (about 1 1/2 cups), divided
Directions
  1. 1

Making the Pizza: Set oven rack in the lowest position. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease an 8-inch round ovenproof skillet. Press thawed dough into prepared skillet.

  2. 2

Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef; cook, stirring, until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain off fat.

  3. 3

In a small bowl, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, onion powder and oregano; mix well. Spread sauce over dough, leaving a 1⁄2-inch border. Sprinkle mozzarella over sauce.

  4. 4

To prepare toppings, arrange beef, pepperoni, tomato, string cheese and all but 1⁄2 cup of bell pepper in equal sections over mozzarella.

  5. 5

Using reserved bell pepper, make a row between each section.

  6. 6

Bake pizza until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown, about 20 minutes. Slice pizza into wedges. Serve immediately.

Grandma's Secret Tip

Grandma's Secret Tip

When she was short on time, Grandma would brown ground beef in the microwave. Just place in a microwave-safe bowl and cook on HIGH, stirring once and breaking up into small pieces, until browned, about 4 minutes.

Variation

Turn this deep-dish pan pizza into a vegetarian delight. Omit the pepperoni from the pizza and substitute 1 cup refried beans for the ground beef.
