Mom's Applesauce

Ingredients
Serves 4
- 5 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and chopped into 1/2-inch cubes
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, divided
Directions

Place the apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 tablespoon water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, covered, for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Mash the apple mixture with the back of a wooden spoon and cook 2 minutes longer. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon on top. Serve hot or cold.

Grandma's Secret Tip
Don’t waste the best part of the apple. Make apple chips by tossing the skins with 1 tablespoon each sugar & cinnamon. Bake at 350˚F for 20 minutes, or until dried & crispy, tossing occasionally to avoid burning.

If you use sweet apples like Gala, Red Delicious or Winesap & you probably won’t need to add any sugar at all.

Save on baby food if you have a little one at home. Use the same recipe with a mixture of apples & pears. Omit cinnamon. Cook till tender in step 1, about 12 minutes. Purée in a blender.
