Chocolate Chess Pie

Grandma teased me, saying chess pie was only for people who played chess!

Ingredients

Serves 6 

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 5 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
Directions

    Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

    Combine granulated sugar and cocoa in a large bowl and mix well. Stir in eggs.

    Combine butter, evaporated milk, vinegar and vanilla extract in a medium bowl and mix well. dd to sugar mixture and mix well. Spoon into pie shell.

    Bake until filling is set around edges, but center is still soft, about 40 minutes.

    Transfer pie to a wire rack. Let stand until the center is set, about 11/2 hours.
