Grandma's Secret Trick
Grandma's neighbor grew peaches, so Grandma often made this cake with fresh peaches. She boiled the peaches in water for a few seconds, then removed them and placed them in a bowl of cold water until cool enough to handle. She removed the peaches from the water and slipped off the skins, then sliced enough peaches to measure 2 cups.
My family called this cake icing ‘mystery icing,’ because the way it’s made is so unusual, no one can guess how it’s done.
When she didn’t have time to fix lunch, Grandma served leftover bean pie and hot cocoa.
It seems strange to use mayonnaise in a cake, but Grandma said mayonnaise is basically eggs and vegetable oil.
