Grandma discovered a secret about this pie: It can be baked without a pie shell. So if you don't have a pie shell on hand, just pour the filling into a greased glass or ceramic pie dish and bake it as the recipe directs. Scoop it out hot or, if you prefer slices, wait until it cools.
Grandma loved when we requested this pie because it was easy, fast and she didn’t have to turn on the oven.
