Grandma and I coaxed this recipe from the woman who catered my wedding.

Ingredients

Serves 28

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
  • 28 fresh strawberries
  • 1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur
  • 2 cups whipped cream
Directions
  1. 1

Line a plate with waxed paper.

  2. 2

Combine chocolate chips and shortening in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH (100% power) until chocolate chips are melted, about 1 minute. Stir until well mixed.

  3. 3

Dip bottom two-thirds of each strawberry into the chocolate mixture. Arrange on prepared platter. Chill, covered, until chocolate is set, about 1 hour. Arrange on a serving platter.

  4. 4

Combine cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar and liqueur in a medium bowl. Beat with an electric mixer set on medium speed until light and fluffy. Fold in whipped cream.

  5. 5

Chill, covered, until serving time. Serve with the chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Grandma's Secret Trick

Grandma's Secret Trick

Grandma found that all kinds of different flavorings work well in the cream cheese dip. She sometimes used raspberry-flavored liqueur instead of the orange-flavored liqueur. In a pinch, she sometimes used 1 teaspoon orange extract or vanilla extract instead of the liqueur.
