  • 4 medium bananas
  • 4 medium pears
  • 1 small pineapple
  • 1/2 (1-pound) pound cake
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tablespoon strong brewed coffee
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon coffee-orange liqueur or 1/2 teaspoon orange extract

  • 3
Add coffee, vanilla extract and coffee-orange liqueur to the chocolate mixture and mix well.
  • 4
Cook chocolate mixture, stirring continually, until thickened, about 7 to 8 minutes. Pour into a fondue pot or heatproof dish. Serve with the fruit and pound cake for dipping.

Grandma's Secret Trick

Grandpa was especially fond of the combination of chocolate and orange. So sometimes Grandma added orange sections to the selection of fruits. She cut away the peel of an orange with a knife then cut the membrane from the fruit. She placed the orange sections on a fork so they wouldn't fall apart when dipped into the chocolate mixture.
