Beer-batter Onion Rings

Hot, crunchy battered onion rings are one of the best tastes ever invented! Make your own at homewith this easy recipe.

Ingredients

Serves 6 

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 11/2 cups beer
  • 11/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 large sweet onion (about 12 oz.), cut into 1/2-inch rings and separated
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce
Directions

    Preheat deep-fat fryer. Place 1 cup flour in a large shallow bowl. Combine the remaining flour, the beer, salt and pepper in another large shallow bowl. Mix well.

    Coat each onion ringwith the flour, then dipinto the beer batter.Coat with the flour again. Repeat with the remaining rings, placing them on an ungreased baking sheet.

    Fry, in batches if necessary, until golden brown,6–8 minutes.

    Meanwhile, combine the mayonnaise, sour creamand chili sauce in a small bowl until smooth. Servethe onion rings with the sauce for dipping.

• For the smoothest beer batter, be sure to blend the ingredients with a whisk instead of a spoon or fork. If there are lumps in the batter, the rings won’t fry evenly.
